Anniversary volume 16 of the «Proceedings of the Mordovia State Nature Reserve» is dedicated to nature conservation. The environment, optimal life conditions are formed by preserving the natural biota, its constituent species of flora and fauna. The materials of this volume are mainly devoted to the inventory, study and conservation of plants, lichens, fungi and animals in the Republic of Mordovia. Additionally, this volumes includes data of studies of springs and geology in the Mordovia State Nature Reserve and its neighbourhoods. The applied aspect of the biodiversity study is discussed in the article on the geoinformation system of the Mordovia State Nature Reserve. Special attention is paid to the Protected Areas network forming in the Republic of Mordovia, including various groups of invertebrates and vertebrates in the upcoming second edition of the Red Data Book of the Republic of Mordovia. In anticipation of the release of the "Flora of the Mordovia State Nature Reserve", the list of vascular plants currently known in the Mordovia State Nature Reserve is published. The scope of studies is not limited only to the Mordovia State Nature Reserve.
