Research activity is the primary one for all the state natural Reserves. According to the Mordovia Reserve Regulations research studies of the scientific department staff members as well as ones of specialists from other organizations get their financing from public funds. 

Essential part of scientific activity devoted to annual “Nature Chronicle” publication. Scientific work directions:

1.  inventory of separate groups of animals and plants at the  Reserve and adjusted territories;
   2.    rare animals and plants species inventory;
   3.   ecological monitoring; 
   4.   study of natural complexes growth dynamics;
   5.   zoological samples and Herbarium collection and upkeep;
   6.   Reserve collected papers publishing.

Research studies in the  Reserve are performed by:
-    scientific department staff members according to the scientific research agenda;
-   research institutes and higher educational institutions of correspondent specification as well as private persons, including  foreigners, working on matters of common concern with the  Reserve, endorsed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation on a contractual basis;
-    other  Reserve department staff members.

From the very foundation of the  Reserve off-site specialists are being involved in scientific work and biodiversity inventory and monitoring on its territory. Over a 2000-2010 period workers of the following organizations took part in the  Reserve studies:
